Cold Therapy

Cold therapy is used for cold compression therapy which utilizes the freezing effect in conjunction with compression.

Cold therapy machines incorporate two aspects of the R.I.C.E healing and recovery method. This stands for Rest, Ice, Compression and Recovery; cold therapy machines focus on the Ice and compression phases.

An ice therapy machine looks similar to an ice cooler and utilizes freezing agents such as ice and water. It comes with a hose; one side of the hose is attached to the container while the other end is attached to a circulation pad, which is placed on a section of the body.

The ice therapy machine then disperses the cold therapy through the hose and on to the surface of the pad, which is wrapped around the knee, leg, shoulder or other body parts thus compressing the injury in the process.

The compression aspect of the machine helps to remove fluid that has been built up in the area and caused the swelling.

While the cold temperature narrows the blood vessels thus temporarily inhibiting blood flow to the injured area.

Medical Compression Wear

Medical compression therapy applies a type of elastic device on limbs or other body parts to exert a controlled pressure on them. Thereby, the device squeezes the vein walls together and improves the circulatory rate. Medical compression also helps with reduction of edema and recreates conditions beneficial for the healing of chronic inflammatory disorders.

Medical compression provides significant relief of leg aching, pain, the feeling of swelling and heaviness, and other venous and lymphatic symptoms.

Medical compression can be applied in different pressure degrees, forms, and styles and materials based on the symptoms and needs of individuals. Round- and flat-knitted garments (stockings, leggings, shorts, tights, pantyhose, arm sleeves, gloves, etc.), wraps, and bandages are available.

Synvisc-One

Synvisc-One® (hylan G-F 20) is an injection that supplements the fluid in your joint to help provide lubrication and cushioning. It can provide up to six months of osteoarthritis pain relief. It is ideal for knee, hip and shoulder joints.

It is prescribed and administered by your orthopaedic surgeon.

When the knees are affected by osteoarthritis, the pain caused by cartilage friction and inflammation limits physical activities and flexibility of the joint. When injected into the osteoarthritic knee, the hyaluronic acid in Synvisc-One acts as a lubricant and a shock absorber, offering protection to the cartilages. It forms a protective cushion between the bones of the knee.

The hip joint enables us to move around when performing physical activities. When affected by osteoarthritis, mobility becomes painful and uncomfortable. Synvisc-One replaces the diminished hip joint synovial fluid, alleviating pain and inflammation by forming a cushion between the hip joint bones. Synvisc-One restores hip joint function, making it more comfortable to move around.

Shoulder or glenohumeral joint osteoarthritis causes pain and discomfort when you perform tasks using the affected hand. The shoulder joint cartilages are slowly damaged and worn away, and without intervention, they can incur significant damage. A Synvisc-One injection offers a way to protect the osteoarthritic shoulder joint and helps alleviate pain and discomfort.
